Impact of spanwise effective slope upon rough-wall turbulent channel flow

چکیده
Whereas streamwise effective slope ( $ES_{x}$ ) is accepted as a key topographical parameter in the context of rough-wall turbulent flows, significance its spanwise counterpart $ES_{y}$ remains largely unexplored. Here, response channel flow over irregular, three-dimensional rough walls with systematically varied values studied using direct numerical simulation. All simulations were performed at fixed friction Reynolds number 395, corresponding to viscous-scaled roughness height $k^{+}\approx 65.8$ (where $k$ mean peak-to-valley height). A surface generation algorithm used synthesise set ten irregular surfaces specified for three different . share common and are near-Gaussian, which allows this study focus on impact varying , since amplitude, skewness can be eliminated simultaneously parameters. Based an analysis first- second-order velocity statistics, well turbulence co-spectra fractional contribution pressure viscous drag, shows that strongly affect drag penalty – particularly low- surfaces. secondary observation particular lead diminished levels outer-layer similarity both attributed insufficient scale separation between outer length in-plane wavelength.

Turbulent Drag Reduction by Spanwise Wall Oscillations
The objective of this paper is to examine the effectiveness of wall oscillation as a control scheme of drag reduction. Two flow configurations are considered: constant flow rate and constant mean pressure gradient. The Navier-Stokes equations are solved using Fourier-Chebyshev spectral methods and the oscillation in sinusoidal form is enforced on the walls through boundary conditions for the sp...

Present study examines turbulent structures of a rough bed open-channel flow in the context of deterministic approach. Instantaneous velocity field is measured in different hydraulic conditions using two dimensional Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) in vertical plane and Stereoscopic PIV in horizontal plane. Different techniques and quantities such as swirl strength, two-point and cross-correlat...
متن کاملLarge-eddy simulation and wall modelling of turbulent channel flow
We report large-eddy simulation (LES) of turbulent channel flow. This LES neither resolves nor partially resolves the near-wall region. Instead, we develop a special near-wall subgrid-scale (SGS) model based on wall-parallel filtering and wall-normal averaging of the streamwise momentum equation, with an assumption of local inner scaling used to reduce the unsteady term. This gives an ordinary ...
